“Newfoundland Faces Snow, Rain, and Wind Warnings”

Snow and heavy rain are affecting Newfoundland once again, leading Environment Canada to issue weather alerts. According to Environment Canada meteorologist Graham MacDonald, snow will be the main feature of the day, transitioning to freezing rain and then rain. Rainfall amounts of 20 to 30 mm are expected, with a particular focus on the southern Avalon region. The system is moving quickly and should pass by this afternoon.

Freezing rain in the northern Avalon is expected to switch to rain by noon, with anticipated rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 mm. A wind warning is in effect for the entire Avalon, with southwesterly winds reaching up to 80 km/h inland and 100 km/h along the coast. MacDonald mentioned that the winds should subside by the evening.

Weather warnings include a mix of snow, ice pellets, freezing rain, and rain across the Bonavista Peninsula, potentially accumulating 10 cm of snow and 5 to 10 mm of rainfall. The Gros Morne area is forecasted to experience snow and blowing snow, while the Northern Peninsula could see 5 to 10 cm of snow, possibly reaching up to 15 cm in eastern areas.

Environment Canada advises caution for travelers due to hazardous conditions. It is recommended to stay updated on weather alerts through the CBC News app and daily headlines newsletter for Newfoundland and Labrador.
