A teenager from Saanich, British Columbia, is currently in critical condition at a hospital following a hit-and-run incident in Richmond, BC, on Saturday night. Authorities suspect that the teen may have been involved in a physical altercation before being struck by the vehicle.
The 17-year-old, Myles Mickey, had traveled from Vancouver Island to attend an all-ages dance event, a common activity for him and his friends. Police were alerted to the incident on No. 3 Road around 11:25 p.m. PT on Saturday, where they found the unconscious and bleeding teenager.
Initial investigations by the Richmond RCMP indicate that the victim was hit by a car following a confrontation on the roadside. Additionally, authorities are looking into an alleged assault causing bodily harm related to the altercation. The vehicle believed to have hit Mickey is described as a dark-colored Ford Fiesta manufactured between 2014 and 2019, with damage to its front end.
Mickey’s family revealed that he had no prior acquaintance with the individuals involved in the fight. The teenager, set to graduate from high school in June, was scheduled to enroll in a construction training program starting the following Monday to acquire necessary qualifications for employment. However, his current condition has left him in a medically-induced coma with brain injuries and multiple fractures.
Despite the challenges ahead, Mickey’s parents, Theandra Holtby and Jesse Laroque, remain optimistic about his recovery. They emphasized his resilience and determination, expressing confidence that he will overcome this ordeal.
Meanwhile, the Richmond RCMP is urging anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses dashcam footage to come forward. They underscored the legal repercussions of fleeing the scene after causing serious harm to another individual with a vehicle.
