Police authorities in York Region issued a public alert following a recent coyote incident in Markham, Ontario, on Sunday. The incident involved a child being bitten by a coyote in a park near Roy Rainey and Bur Oak avenues at approximately 7:30 p.m. The child, around five years old, sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was promptly treated at a hospital.
This marks the second coyote-related incident in the area within a week, as last week, a 16-year-old girl was bitten by a coyote near Mingay and Bur Oak avenues, resulting in minor injuries that required hospitalization. As a precaution, residents are advised to exercise caution when in parks around McCowan Road and 16th Avenue in Markham.
Authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance and maintaining a safe distance from wildlife, particularly coyotes. It is strongly advised not to approach or attempt to feed these animals to prevent further encounters.
