U.S. women’s hockey gold medal-winning captain Hilary Knight made a surprising revelation during a recent TV appearance, disclosing that she competed at the Olympics in Milan despite having a torn medial collateral ligament in one of her knees. Knight shared this information on “CBS Mornings,” mentioning her challenges in walking comfortably and missing several games for the Seattle Torrent in the PWHL.
Playing what she described as her final Olympics at the age of 36, Knight played a crucial role in tying the final against Canada with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. Following their return for the season, Knight, along with teammate Kendall Coye Schofield and Canada’s Erin Ambrose, were all placed on long-term injured reserve by their respective PWHL teams.
Knight, along with U.S. men’s gold medalists Jack and Quinn Hughes, are scheduled to make an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday night. This follows their notable cameo alongside women’s golden goal scorer Megan Keller on “Saturday Night Live” just 48 hours earlier.
Jack Hughes’ overtime goal against Canada, similar to Keller’s performance three days prior, secured the men’s gold medal, marking the country’s first victory since the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” in Lake Placid. Both Jack, playing for the New Jersey Devils, and Quinn, with the Minnesota Wild, have resumed playing in the NHL. The Devils even granted Jack a day off from practice before their appearance on Fallon’s show, which is anticipated to be the final stop on the brothers’ media tour since their return to North America.
