“Special Weather Alert: Freezing Rain Threatens Golden Horseshoe Region”

Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert for the Golden Horseshoe region in Ontario, predicting several hours of freezing rain on Tuesday. The alert indicates that areas like Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford will experience freezing rain mixed with snow or ice pellets in the morning, tapering off by the afternoon. In the Niagara Region, rain is expected in the late morning with a potential risk of freezing rain by noon.

The weather alert warns that the freezing rain could lead to icy and slippery roads and walkways, with surfaces becoming treacherous to navigate. Local utility outages are also a possibility, and there is a heightened risk of slips and falls due to the icy conditions.

As a precaution, the Halton Student Transportation Services announced the cancellation of school buses for the day, although schools will remain open. In terms of temperatures, Brantford is forecasted to feel like –9°C in the morning, with Hamilton experiencing a similar wind chill of –8°C.

Throughout the day, temperatures in the Niagara Region are expected to drop from a high of 4°C to a low of 0°C by late evening as periods of rain come to an end before midnight. Brantford and Hamilton will also see periods of rain in the evening, with temperatures dipping to 1°C in Brantford and a low of 1°C in Hamilton by nightfall.
