Russell Brand, the British comedian, has entered a plea of not guilty to fresh allegations of rape and sexual assault presented in court on Tuesday. These new charges, dating back to 2009, were denied by Brand during his appearance at Southwark Crown Court. Earlier in April, the 50-year-old entertainer was already facing charges of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault involving four women, with incidents reportedly spanning from 1999 to 2005 in Bournemouth and London.
A trial set for June, expected to run for four to five weeks, will address the case. A hearing next month will determine if the new allegations will be combined with the existing charges, with Brand’s lawyer requesting more time to address the latest accusations. When asked about his well-being upon arriving at court, Brand, who announced his Christian faith in 2024, expressed feeling “blessed.”
Brand, a prominent figure on British screens in the 2000s known for his flamboyant style, radio presenting, and risqué standup comedy, has retreated from mainstream media in recent times. Despite his battles with substance abuse, he has garnered a significant online following by sharing content blending wellness advice, conspiracy theories, and his religious beliefs.
