The Mississauga native contributed 21 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in the Raptors’ 116-107 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Barrett emphasized that losses to the reigning champions and the Detroit Pistons are not setbacks but rather indicators of the Raptors’ progress from their 30-52 record last season.
“We’ve shown significant improvement from last year. Consider where we were then versus now,” Barrett remarked. “Many of these teams have already established themselves as strong contenders, experienced playoff scenarios, and even won championships. They are battle-tested, and facing them is beneficial for our growth.”
Toronto, with a record of 34-24, saw their two-game winning streak end against the Thunder. The defeat dropped the Raptors to a 4-14 record against the league’s top 10 teams, with a notable portion of those wins coming against the Cleveland Cavaliers pre-James Harden trade.
Barrett acknowledged the importance of facing playoff-bound teams during the regular season, emphasizing the learning opportunities provided by such matchups. Despite a strong start against the Thunder, Toronto struggled in the second and third quarters, deviating from their initial game plan.
Head coach Darko Rajakovic expressed disappointment in the team’s performance, particularly highlighting the need to maintain consistency throughout the game. Defensive stalwarts Brandon Ingram and Scottie Barnes were contained by the Thunder’s defense, with Barnes sustaining a right-quad contusion and becoming questionable for the upcoming game against the San Antonio Spurs.
Barnes’ defensive contributions, including steals and blocks, were commended by Rajakovic, who praised his disruptive presence on the court and aggressive play towards the rim.
