Riit, a renowned vocalist, initiated a social media drive to mark the holiday season and ensure that individuals feeling isolated during the festivities could find a sense of connection. The initiative, dubbed “25 Days of Gratitude,” kicked off on December 1, 2025, and extended until Christmas Day.
Every day, Riit shared an image on the Facebook page of TLS Nunavut, together with a narrative highlighting an element of her culture that she appreciates. TLS Nunavut is a non-profit organization focused on mental health wellness for Inuit Nunangat, operating primarily on social media platforms.
In a Facebook post on the campaign’s first day, Riit expressed, “To pay tribute to the season, we’ve crafted a gratitude calendar to share with you. Each day, we will spotlight something to be thankful for within our Inuit culture—our teachings, traditions, ways of life, and the individuals who support us. These brief moments of contemplation serve as a means to reconnect with our roots, our sources of strength, and what continues to define our identity.”
Originally from Panniqtuuq, Nunavut, and presently residing in Ottawa, Riit is a performer and television presenter. She characterizes her musical style as electropop combined with Inuktitut lyrics and deep rhythmic vocals. Her music has received nominations at prestigious events such as the Junos, the 2020 Polaris Music Prize, and the 2020 SOCAN Songwriting Prize.
In an interview with CBC News, Riit discussed the inspiration behind the 25 Days of Gratitude and her aspirations for the future.
