A special cat up for adoption in Alabama is capturing attention due to its unique feature of having two extra ears. Stephanie Brown, who is currently caring for the cat, described the additional ear flaps as smaller and positioned in front of its regular ears, almost appearing backward. According to Brown, these extra ear flaps do not cause any issues or discomfort and do not impact the cat’s hearing.
Veterinarians have informed Brown that this genetic mutation in the cat, named Dobby, is extremely rare. The shelter, Kitty Cat Haven and Rescue, echoed this sentiment, mentioning that Dobby’s condition is a first for them despite rescuing over 6,800 cats and kittens since 2017.
Brown first learned about Dobby through a Facebook post by his previous owners, who mentioned that he was having difficulties getting along with their other cat. Dobby, named after the house elf in the Harry Potter series due to his distinctive ears, also has a short, curled tail and a severe underbite that will require surgery.
Despite these challenges, adoption requests for Dobby are pouring in, with the shelter receiving numerous inquiries. Brown stated that Dobby is not yet ready for adoption and will undergo dental surgery in April before becoming available for adoption, which she believes will be a smooth process.
Regarding Dobby’s extra ears, the veterinarian has assured Brown that they should not pose any future issues. Brown expressed her desire for Dobby to keep his unique feature, believing it adds to his charm.
Brown, an experienced foster caregiver, has been fostering animals with her husband since 2020, driven by the need for foster families in the cat adoption process. Despite already having a full household with various pets and a young daughter, Brown admitted to considering adopting Dobby herself, although she remains undecided for now.
