Canadian snowboarder Laurie Blouin clinched the gold medal at a World Cup women’s snowboard slopestyle event held in Aspen, Colorado. Blouin, originally from Quebec City, initially stood in sixth place after her first run but managed to secure a remarkable score of 81.21 in her final run, ultimately emerging as the event’s victor.
This victory signifies Blouin’s third career win in slopestyle at the World Cup and her 14th appearance on the podium. Notably, it marks her first triumph on the World Cup circuit since March 2022. Heading into the final on Saturday, Blouin exuded confidence as other competitors vied for spots in the upcoming Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina, Italy.
Expressing her feelings after the win, Blouin stated, “I was just here to have fun and not have any pressure, and that’s what I did. I’m pretty much qualified for the Olympics, so I came here to just get the nerve back.”
In the competition, Japanese snowboarders Mari Fukada and Kokomo Murase secured the silver and bronze medals with scores of 77.26 and 75.36, respectively. Among the men, Francis Jobin from Quebec City was the top-performing Canadian, finishing in 12th place. The men’s event saw Jake Canter from the United States claim the gold medal, followed by Yiming Su in second place and Dane Menzies from New Zealand in third.
