Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe Braces for Freezing Rain

The Golden Horseshoe region in Ontario is expected to be hit by several hours of freezing rain on Tuesday, as per Environment Canada. Freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow or ice pellets, will start in the morning for Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford, concluding in the afternoon according to a special weather advisory. In the Niagara Region, there will be some rain in the late morning, with a potential risk of freezing rain by noon.

The weather alert cautioned that the freezing rain could lead to icy and slippery roads and walkways, with surfaces being challenging to identify. Local utility outages are a possibility, and there is a potential risk of injuries from slips and falls.

Halton Student Transportation Services announced the cancellation of school buses for the day but confirmed that schools would remain open. Brantford is expected to have a morning wind chill of -9°C, while Hamilton will feel like -8°C. Meanwhile, temperatures in the Niagara Region will drop from a daytime high of 4°C to a nighttime low of 0°C, with rain expected to cease by midnight.

Later in the evening, Brantford will also experience periods of rain, with temperatures dropping to as low as 1°C, accompanied by cloudy skies and a chance of flurries or rain showers. In Hamilton, rain is forecasted to persist until late evening before transitioning to cloudy weather with a possibility of flurries, with the temperature dropping to 1°C.
