“Newfoundland and Labrador’s Cruise Sector Booms in Record-breaking Year”

Newfoundland and Labrador’s cruise ship sector had a remarkable year in 2025, with over 100,000 visitors arriving via cruise ships. Cruise Newfoundland and Labrador, the industry’s representative group, reported 180 cruise ships making stops at 24 destinations, including rural areas. Managing director Katelyn Budgell highlighted the record-breaking season, mentioning new certifications allowing Trinity and Bonavista to welcome cruise ships.

The cruise season in Newfoundland and Labrador spanned from January to October, starting with a visit to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. This year marked the longest cruise ship season in the province’s history. The Port of Corner Brook also had its most extended season on record, hosting 24 ship calls and over 30,000 passengers.

Budgell emphasized the economic benefits of cruise ships in the region and ongoing efforts to enhance the industry in rural areas. Bookings for future seasons, including 2028, are already being secured, reflecting the sustained interest from cruise lines in the unique culture and landscapes of Newfoundland and Labrador.
