Maple Leafs Player Honors Late Fan with Touching Gesture

Over the weekend, a Toronto Maple Leafs player paid tribute to a beloved grocery store worker and fan who passed away suddenly last week. Bobby McMann honored Kevin Wilson by wearing a yellow safety vest during a game with the Vancouver Canucks, reminiscent of the vest Wilson wore daily as a front-end service clerk at a Loblaws store in downtown Toronto.

Describing Wilson as a warm and friendly presence who adored the team, McMann shared that Wilson positively impacted many people who visited the store. Tragically, Wilson, a lifelong Leafs fan, succumbed to complications from meningitis at the age of 48.

McMann, who frequented the store where Wilson worked, not only wore Wilson’s nametag but also expressed his condolences by attending the game at Scotiabank Arena. Loblaws created a memorial at the store entrance, adorned with photos, flowers, cards, and Leafs memorabilia in honor of Wilson.

Frank Crupi, a customer and hockey enthusiast, commended McMann’s gesture as a poignant tribute to Wilson’s memory. Crupi reminisced about his friendship with Wilson, recalling their shared passion for the Leafs and their evolving bond over the years.

Describing Wilson’s affable nature and love for the team, customers like the Kushnirs and Nicolas Wen Shea fondly remembered his enthusiasm and positive attitude, especially during hockey seasons. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in Wilson’s honor to assist with funeral expenses, highlighting his radiant personality and unwavering kindness that touched the lives of those around him.
