Freestyle skier Mikaël Kingsbury decided to sit out of the dual moguls event on Saturday following his impressive victory in the men’s moguls the day before, marking his 100th career World Cup win. This competition in Val Saint-Come, Quebec, marked Kingsbury’s first appearance of the season as he had missed the season opener due to a groin injury.
Despite his victory on Friday, Kingsbury was uncertain about competing on consecutive days. However, a statement from his spokesperson on Saturday confirmed that the Canadian athlete would not be participating in the dual moguls event. The statement emphasized that this decision aligns with Kingsbury’s strategic plan to ensure his return to competition and readiness for the upcoming Olympic Games.
The upcoming Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, commencing on February 6, will witness the debut of dual moguls as an Olympic event. Kingsbury, a decorated Olympian with a gold medal in 2018 and silver medals in 2014 and 2022 in moguls, has also clinched nine gold medals in the world championship for both moguls and dual moguls events.
In the men’s dual moguls competition, alongside Kingsbury, nine other Canadian athletes participated, while the women’s dual moguls event saw the participation of nine Canadian women.
