Three individuals who accused actor Kevin Spacey of sexual assault have resolved their legal claims outside of trial at the High Court in London, according to court records. The trio alleged that the Oscar-winning actor mistreated them between 2000 and 2013. Despite the allegations, Spacey has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
Scheduled civil trials were set to commence later this year, but Judge Christina Lambert recently halted the proceedings after the parties reached an agreement on settlement terms. In an order issued last Friday, the judge decreed that all further actions against the defendant in these cases would be paused based on the agreed-upon terms outlined in the confidential schedule.
The specifics of the settlement terms remain undisclosed, and the judge did not address any directives regarding costs. The order, dated Friday, was publicly disclosed on Wednesday.
As of now, Spacey’s representatives have not provided any comments on the matter. In 2023, the actor, now 66, faced trial in London over nine alleged sex offenses involving four men and was ultimately acquitted of all charges.
During Spacey’s criminal trial, two of the anonymous civil claimants presented evidence. Additionally, Spacey successfully defended himself against a $40 million US civil lawsuit filed in New York in 2022 by actor Anthony Rapp from “Star Trek: Discovery.”
Once considered one of the leading actors of his generation, Spacey’s career suffered a setback due to the sexual abuse allegations. He starred in acclaimed films such as “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “L.A. Confidential,” as well as the TV series “House of Cards.” Spacey received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for “The Usual Suspects” in 1995 and a Best Actor Oscar for “American Beauty” in 1999.
Formerly serving as the artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004 to 2015, Spacey’s recent work has primarily involved smaller film projects and stage productions, diverging from his previous mainstream Hollywood roles.
Overall, the settlement of the civil claims against Spacey marks a significant development in the ongoing legal saga surrounding the actor’s alleged misconduct.
