Kansas City’s professional football team acknowledged on Wednesday night that they were informed of allegations of domestic violence made on social media by a former partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice. The team stated that they have been in contact with the NFL regarding the matter but did not specifically mention Rice in their official response, adding that they will refrain from making further comments at this moment.
The ex-girlfriend, Dacoda Nichole Jones, posted a series of photos on Instagram earlier in the day suggesting signs of physical abuse without directly naming Rice. Jones indicated that the individual involved was the father of her children, with Rice being the father of her two children. Rice, who was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2023 draft, has not had any police reports filed against him in Overland Park, Kansas, where the alleged abuse took place.
Rice was suspended by the NFL for the initial six games of the season due to his involvement in a car crash on a Dallas highway during the 2024 offseason, resulting in multiple injuries. He later pleaded guilty to third-degree felony charges related to the incident and received a jail sentence along with probation. Despite these off-field issues, Rice managed to accumulate 53 receptions, 571 yards, and five touchdowns as part of a challenging season for Kansas City, which ended with a 6-11 record and a playoff absence after a decade of postseason appearances.
