“Jolene Campbell Leads Saskatchewan to Victory at Scotties”

Jolene Campbell, previously a Scotties Tournament of Hearts winner as an alternate, now aims to secure victory as a skipper. Competing in Saskatchewan colors after a decade, Campbell led her team to an 8-5 triumph over B.C.’s Taylor Reese-Hansen, evening her round-robin record at 1-1.

With Robyn Silvernagle as vice skipper and Rachel Big Eagle along with Dayna Demmans on the front end, Campbell’s rink showed improvement following an initial loss to Nova Scotia’s Taylour Stevens. Campbell’s solid 81% performance and Silvernagle’s impressive 89% accuracy boosted the team’s confidence.

Campbell, a former fifth on Amber Holland’s championship team in 2011, has had varied roles in past Scotties, including a stint as a wild-card entry. Teaming up with Silvernagle, who won bronze in her debut, has proven to be a successful combination with mutual trust and competitiveness.

In a crucial ninth end, Campbell’s triple-takeout restricted B.C. to a single point, allowing Saskatchewan to secure a win with a decisive final shot. Silvernagle praised Campbell’s confident leadership and versatile gameplay, highlighting her prowess in both hitting and drawing.

Other notable results from the competition included Manitoba’s Kaitlyn Lawes securing a five-point draw in the ninth end, Canada’s Kerri Einarson defeating Stevens, and Quebec’s Jolianne Fortin prevailing over Yukon’s Bayly Scoffin. The tournament will continue until February 1, with the winning team earning the opportunity to represent Canada at the upcoming world women’s curling championship in Calgary.

The event showcases top female curlers from across Canada, with intense matches and strategic gameplay on display. Stay tuned for more updates as the competition unfolds.
