‘I served in jail like crossbow killer Kyle Clifford – wheelchair won’t protect him’

A former criminal who served inside a “Monster Mansion” prison believes crossbow killer Kyle Clifford will endure a “living hell” behind bars – where he warned “justice” will be served.

Ex-soldier Clifford, 26, was given a life sentence for raping and murdering his former girlfriend, Louise Hunt, 25. He also killed her beautician sister Hannah, 28, and her mum, Carol, 61, who was married to BBC racing commentator John Hunt.

He carried out his sick rampage last year after Louise, who was a dog groomer, ended their “controlling” 18-month relationship. Carol died of stab wounds while her daughters suffered fatal crossbow injuries. Clifford fled the scene before later being found in a cemetery in Enfield with self-inflicting injuries that left him paralysed from the chest down.

But Ricky Killeen, who was also once incarcerated in a Category A prison, believes being in a wheelchair will act as no protection for the “despicable creature” in jail.

He said he will spend the rest of his life “feeling hopeless and defenceless against attack” and he added: “Someone like this, believe you me, whether or not they are in a wheelchair, will come under attack in prison. That creature will be spending the rest of his life in misery inside a high security prison. He will be bashed. He will be attacked in his wheelchair while in prison from another con who does not like this type of behaviour.”

Ricky, from Stanley, Durham, arrived at HMP Frankland aged 21 to serve an IPP (imprisonment for public protection) for his part in a machete attack – but he now helps former prisoners rebuild their lives.

And the author of Behind the Bars Ruthless Fitness gave a chilling insight into what former security guard Clifford can expect, despite being most likely placed on a specialist wing away from the general population.

He said: “On the VP wings (often home to child offenders and notorious murderers) there are lads down there from normal locations who run up drug debts and they have been put down there for their own safety – or they have become snitches but they would be in for what I would class as a normal offence.

“Then they come across the likes of him and believe you me they will be bullying him and they will take their justice out on him. Just because he is in a wheelchair doesn’t mean he will be protected.”

Ricky, who provides prison insights on his YouTube channel Behind the Bars TV, added: “Kyle Clifford’s life will be a living hell and I wouldn’t be surprised if the coward tries to take his own life because he will not want to live the rest of his sorry life in a wheelchair serving life without parole.”

Clifford is one of around 70 criminals serving whole-life orders in English or Welsh prisons with other notorious lifers including Wayne Couzens, Rose West and Lucy Letby.
