Hyundai warns of seatbelt malfunction in 2026 Palisade

Hyundai has issued a caution regarding the seatbelt system in certain 2026 Palisade models. According to a notification on Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database, some vehicles may experience wiring damage in the seatbelt of the third-row, left-hand side seat when pulled. This wiring issue can lead to a malfunction where the seatbelt indicator falsely shows that the seatbelt is fastened even when it is not.

The notice emphasized the importance of a properly functioning seatbelt status indicator, highlighting that not wearing a seatbelt can significantly increase the risk of injury in the event of a collision. Approximately 4,203 vehicles in Canada could be impacted by this seatbelt issue.

Hyundai will be reaching out to affected drivers through written communication, urging them to schedule a visit to a dealership for the necessary repairs on the seatbelt wiring. Alternatively, drivers can check if their vehicle is affected by entering their VIN on Hyundai’s online recall lookup website or by contacting 1-888-216-2626.

Earlier this year, Hyundai issued a recall for numerous vehicles in the U.S. and Canada, suspending sales of specific Palisade models due to a separate issue involving certain second and third-row power seats failing to halt movement upon detecting contact with a passenger or object. This recall was prompted by a tragic incident where a two-year-old child lost their life in Ohio.
