Hilaria Baldwin ‘afraid of what might come out’ as reality series shows therapy
Alec Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria, has spoken about her fears about what might be revealed as their new reality show, The Baldwins, documents the couple’s therapy sessions in the aftermath of her husband’s trial. The series, airing on TLC in the US and available on Discovery+ in the UK, was filmed both before and after Alec faced court over involuntary manslaughter charges related to the tragic shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust in 2021.
The charges against Alec were ultimately dismissed. In the latest episode, Alec is supported by family members, including Hilaria, his brother Stephen, sister Elizabeth Keuchler, and daughter Carmen, who was 10 at the time, as they navigate the court proceedings.
While Alec is unable to discuss case specifics due to ongoing legal matters, the episode provides a glimpse into the family’s subsequent actions, reports the Irish Star. Hilaria suggests arranging a therapy session, though she anticipates resistance from her husband.
She explains: “Alec is a man born in the 1950s and asking for help is a difficult thing. I also think it’s his generation. Where you shut down, you just go out and work, you got to be strong, you got to be all these different kinds of things. I think asking for help was not something that was modelled for him and hopefully he can realise that it’s OK.”
As Alec and his partner attend their appointment, he becomes preoccupied with his phone early on he insists that he needs to switch it off completely. Suddenly losing track of what he was saying previously, he admits: “If I don’t finish (speaking) I lose my concentration and this is a result of what happened to me. If I’m talking to you and someone interrupts me I forget exactly what I was saying, I can’t go back. I’m very traumatised by what happened.”
Hilaria opens up to the camera about her aspirations and worries regarding their therapy sessions, revealing: “Alec needs to be told it’s OK to talk about how he feels. To allow himself to break and be a little messy because he keeps everything in until he bursts and when he bursts it’s not done in a way that is thoughtful and in a direction of healing. He is very vulnerable and I’m afraid of what might come out.”
Acknowledging the transformation within himself since the incident, Alec recognises even after being exonerated in court, he struggles with focus and memory. Reflecting on this change, he confesses: “That’s not me. I have a photographic memory. They hand me a two page monologue on 30 Rock that morning and I’d memorise it. I developed that ability. My memory is shot. I can’t remember anything anymore, it’s really scary.”
