The stars of the TV series “Heated Rivalry” are speaking out against negative behavior exhibited by some of their followers. Hudson Williams and Francois Arnaud, who play key roles in the show, took to Instagram to denounce any racist, homophobic, or other discriminatory remarks from fans. They emphasized that such hateful comments are unwelcome despite being labeled as expressions of “love.”
Several other cast members, including Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, Robbie G. K., Sophie Nelisse, Harrison Browne, and Christina Chang, echoed the same sentiment by reposting the message. Browne, who is transgender, specifically mentioned facing transphobic comments and shared examples of negative feedback about his casting.
The author of the original books, Rachel Reid, and the director, Jacob Tierney, also endorsed the message. The show’s popularity has brought its actors into the limelight, but it has also attracted a fanbase that has shown toxic tendencies at times.
Recent discussions around the sexuality of Williams and co-star Connor Storrie have sparked controversy, with Storrie highlighting the importance of representing diverse characters on screen over personal relationships. Williams, who was reported to have a girlfriend, faced accusations of queerbaiting, along with racial and appearance-based attacks.
Speculation arose when images of Storrie and Arnaud were seen together in public, leading some fans to assume a romantic connection between them. Arnaud mentioned in January that harsh fan comments prompted him to block certain apps and avoid reading comments altogether.
Director Tierney expressed his disapproval of the toxic fan behavior, emphasizing that he would not engage with negative comments or controversies. Similar incidents of fan misconduct have been observed with other TV shows like “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and reality series “Love Island,” prompting calls for kindness and decency in online interactions.
The cast of “Heated Rivalry” hopes to foster a more respectful and supportive fan community amidst the show’s success and growing popularity.
