“Graffiti Defaces Historic Molson Brewery in Montreal”

Graffiti was recently discovered on the outer wall of the historic Molson Brewery building, located by the St. Lawrence River in Montreal. The graffiti, featuring the letters K, N, G, L, U, and a modified “O” in the word “Molson,” was found beneath the building’s well-known clock face.

The individuals responsible for the graffiti and their intentions remain unknown. Groupe Montoni, a co-owner of the property, considers the incident as vandalism and has reported it to the Montreal police. According to Jean-Baptiste Portrait, a spokesperson for Groupe Montoni, the incident likely took place overnight between Friday and Saturday, with no indication of theft other than the graffiti.

Despite the regrettable nature of the incident, Groupe Montoni assured that the site is secure and that measures are in place to maintain its heritage status. Plans are in motion to have a specialized anti-graffiti team assess the graffiti and determine the best approach for removal while preserving the building’s historic character.

The former Molson Brewery site is undergoing a transformation into a mixed-use residential area, including a park and pedestrian-only space. A significant portion of the development project is slated for social housing, with the goal of integrating the heritage landmark into a modern community setting.
