Chuck Lefley, a former Montreal Canadiens center who secured two Stanley Cup championships in the early 1970s, passed away at the age of 76. The Canadiens confirmed his death in Grosse Isle, Man., on Monday without disclosing the cause.
Originally from Winnipeg and raised in Grosse Isle, Lefley was chosen as the sixth overall pick by Montreal in the 1970 NHL draft. He played a pivotal role in the Canadiens’ Stanley Cup victories in 1971 and 1973.
Lefley contributed 45 goals and 60 assists across 174 regular-season games with the Canadiens, along with three goals and six assists in 24 playoff appearances. Following a trade to the St. Louis Blues in the 1974-75 season, he excelled with a 43-goal, 85-point performance in 1975-76.
In his NHL career, Lefley amassed 292 points in 407 games before retiring.
