A man has tragically lost his life in Quebec City following a fire that broke out in a multi-unit building on Saturday evening. Emergency services were notified of the fire around 6:42 p.m. by several witnesses who observed smoke and flames emerging from the building’s second floor on St-Mathias Street, as per a news release from the Quebec City police.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an unconscious man inside the building and promptly evacuated him before attempting resuscitation. Despite their efforts, the man could not be revived and was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.
The fire was swiftly brought under control within an hour, with damages confined to a single residence, according to police reports. The Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) and the forensic identification unit have initiated an investigation into the incident, which is currently being treated as a “suspicious death” case.
