“Extortion-Linked Shooting in Langley: No Injuries Reported”

Langley RCMP reported that a shooting incident occurred on Thursday, with no injuries reported, believed to be connected to extortion. Law enforcement responded to the scene on 232 Street in the 6900 block after 5:15 a.m. and discovered evidence indicating gunshots had been fired.

Authorities stated that the suspects arrived in a dark-colored sedan and quickly fled the area following the incident. Langley RCMP Sgt. Zynal Sharoom stated that preliminary information suggests the incident is linked to extortion, and investigations are ongoing to establish potential connections to other cases.

During the police presence, a flatbed truck was observed removing a dark-colored vehicle from the location; however, the extent of any damage to the car was unclear. This incident occurred a day after two shootings in Metro Vancouver that may also be tied to extortion cases.

The Surrey Police Service responded to a shooting at a residence on 77 Avenue in the 12300 block on Wednesday morning, believed to be part of the ongoing extortion incidents in Surrey. Delta police also investigated a shooting on Wednesday morning near 84 Avenue and Brooke Road, related to an extortion case, with no injuries reported in either incident.

There has been a surge in extortion-related violence targeting Canada’s South Asian community, resulting in numerous shootings and prompting the establishment of a provincial task force last year. Langley RCMP urged anyone with information about the Thursday shooting to come forward for assistance.
