“Dust Storm Paralyzes Airports and Cities in Libya”

A dense dust storm swept through Libya on Tuesday, causing low visibility and leading to the temporary halt of flights at two major airports in Benghazi and Tripoli. The country, situated in the Sahara Desert, experiences frequent dust storms, particularly during the spring months, with the peak usually in April. These storms form when powerful winds from thunderstorms lift dry soil, carrying dust and sand over long distances through the air.

Benghazi, the second-largest city in Libya located on the eastern coast, bore the brunt of the storm, as it was shrouded in a thick orange haze. The scenes in the city during the storm were eerily reminiscent of the desert landscapes portrayed in the movie “Dune.”

Images captured during the storm show surreal visuals, with people and buildings barely visible amidst the orange dust-filled atmosphere. Pigeons were seen lingering near a fountain, individuals taking photos by the seaside, and a deserted road along the coastline covered in an orange hue due to the dust storm.
