Coronation Street spoilers for next week: Harrowing plot and drama-filled return
Viewers of Coronation Street will see some “harrowing” and distressing scenes next week on the ITV soap.
There’s two key storylines unfolding, and one major plot taking centre stage. A special and important episode will highlight racial injustice in maternity care, with Dee-Dee Bailey left fighting for her life.
Her and her unborn baby will be left facing harm as a result of negligence and delays, and the attitudes shown towards Dee-Dee will no doubt spark fury amongst viewers. The character goes into labour after experiencing pains for days, and her pleas for help are dismissed.
Dee-Dee knows something isn’t right, but she keeps getting sent home and is told it’s nothing to worry about until her waters break. Rushed back to hospital, Dee-Dee remains a non-priority and has her fears dismissed, as well as her clear pain, until things reach a terrifying point.
The soap announced a new storyline recently which will be exploring racial injustice in maternity care. Our soap source said of the scenes airing from Monday: “The consequences of her delay in treatment and the lack of care or concern for Dee-Dee have truly harrowing consequences, with some upsetting moments on the way.
“The episode shines an important light on the topic, and fans see Dee-Dee terrified for her and her baby’s safety only to be ignored. But it reaches a point where her clearly deteriorating health cannot be dismissed and she’s forced to undergo life-changing surgery.
“Things take a devastating turn for Dee-Dee and her family, as a doctor finally addresses her concerns only for her to find out she is suffering from pre-eclampsia and the baby needs to come out right away. It’s very difficult to watch but an important episode.”
Dee-Dee will be left fighting for justice in the aftermath of her horrific ordeal, and she’ll also have a big decision to make. Amid the horror for the Baileys there’s a shocking new plot that sees Jenny Connor targeted.
With that we will have the big return of Christina Boyd, Daisy Midgeley’s mother, and it seems the pair have united against Jenny. With Daisy seemingly wanting revenge after Jenny’s cruel confession and her money secret, Christina wastes no time in taking a brutal action agains her.
Our soap source revealed: “There’s a big betrayal and then a sad discovery, something Daisy has never known. Daisy does something pretty impulsive and it opens the gates for some huge drama, and possibly dark scenes.
“There could be no going back, and it has the power to tear Jenny and Daisy apart for good. Christina has a lot of fun with it, and it’s certainly entertaining but also quite sad.”
