Canadian moguls star MikaĆ«l Kingsbury is set to compete at the upcoming Milano-Cortina Winter Games with the goal of securing two medals as a key member of Canada’s freestyle skiing squad.
The announcement of the 25-athlete team, including Kingsbury, was jointly made by Freestyle Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee.
Hailing from Deux-Montagnes, Quebec, Kingsbury clinched gold in the men’s moguls event at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, silver at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, and silver at the 2022 Beijing Games.
As the all-time leader in World Cup wins, Kingsbury will have two opportunities to vie for podium finishes in Italy, with the addition of dual moguls to the Olympic program.
Following a successful season on the World Cup circuit, which saw him secure his 100th career victory on home turf in Val Saint-Come, Quebec, Kingsbury is in peak form heading into the Winter Games.
Among the returning Olympic medalists are Cassie Sharpe (gold, silver) and Rachael Karker (bronze) in halfpipe, as well as Lewis Irving, Marion Thenault, and Miha Fontaine (bronze) in mixed team aerials.
“It is a tremendous honor for me to represent Canada at the Olympic Games for the fourth time in my career,” said Kingsbury in a statement. “Wearing my country’s colors has always been a privilege, and this year’s Games hold a special significance for me.
“For the first time in Olympic history, we have two events. Naturally, my aim is to stand on the podium in both events. It would be a fantastic way to commemorate what may likely be my final Games.”
The freestyle skiing events will be spread across the Games, commencing on Day 1, February 7.
