Victoria Mboko and Felix Auger-Aliassime have resumed their winning streak at the start of the 2026 tennis season. The duo led Canada to a 3-0 victory over China in the United Cup mixed teams event, dominating the Group B round-robin match.
Auger-Aliassime, ranked No. 5 in men’s singles, defeated Zhang Zhizhen 6-4, 6-4, while Mboko, ranked 18th in women’s singles, staged a comeback to defeat Lin Zhu 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. The Canadian pair then combined forces to secure a 6-1, 6-3 win in the mixed doubles match against Xiaodi You and Rigele Te.
Auger-Aliassime’s recent successes include reaching the U.S. Open semifinals, clinching the ATP 250 title at the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open, and making it to the ATP Finals semifinals last season.
The 25-year-old Montreal native marked his first season-opening victory since 2021, expressing satisfaction with his performance. “I can be very pleased with this first match of the year,” Auger-Aliassime commented. “Tennis is about rhythm, playing important points under pressure, so you never know what to expect. I woke up this morning hoping for the best, and then I played some of my best tennis.”
On the other hand, 19-year-old Mboko made a remarkable climb from outside the top 300 to break into the top 20 rankings in the previous season. Her achievements included winning the WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Montreal and ending 2025 with a five-match winning streak to secure the Hong Kong Open title.
Canada’s upcoming match in the United Cup is against Belgium on Tuesday, with the tournament scheduled to conclude on January 11.
