“Ottawa’s Women’s Soccer Team Under New Ownership”

The professional women’s soccer team in Ottawa has revealed a new majority ownership group, led by chair Nick Sakellariadis, a Harvard graduate in law and business known for his extensive background in investment banking and ownership of the Dayton, Ohio-based Cincinnati Reds affiliate for over a decade. The group, which includes Michael Savit and Ellen Shumway, aims to establish Ottawa Rapid FC as a fan-centric and family-friendly institution while promoting women’s soccer growth in Canada. The team’s commitment to youth development and professional excellence was highlighted in their recent news release. The exact investment amount was not disclosed, but the existing owners are staying on and increasing their investment in the club. Despite a loss in the Northern Super League semifinal during the inaugural season, standout players like DB Pridham and Jyllissa Harris were recognized for their outstanding performances. Ottawa’s 2026 season kicks off in Halifax on April 25, with the home opener scheduled for May 2.
