Prince Edward Island woke up to a thick layer of snow this morning, leading to disruptions and shutdowns throughout the province on Tuesday. Both English and French schools decided to close for the day citing challenging weather and travel conditions. Island Montessori Academy in Stratford and Cornwall also followed suit by shutting their doors for the day.
All campuses of Holland College and the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) in Charlottetown and St. Peters Bay chose to remain closed for the day. However, the Atlantic Veterinary College’s teaching hospital stayed operational for emergency cases. Health P.E.I. announced delays and closures on its website, advising Islanders to contact healthcare facilities in advance to confirm appointments or reschedule if necessary.
In the West Prince region, all provincial civil service offices opened at 1 p.m., while locations in East Prince, Queens, Charlottetown, and Kings County remained closed for the day. The Charlottetown and Stratford branches of the Provincial Credit Union resumed operations at 12:30 p.m., while other branches remained closed. Both Charlottetown City Hall and Summerside City Hall, along with non-essential services, remained closed for the day.
Due to the weather conditions, Canada Post suspended all deliveries and mail collection for the day, mentioning resumption of services once conditions improve. While Kings and Queens counties were under a yellow snowfall warning in the morning, Prince County received a special weather statement. As of 2 p.m., there were no active weather warnings in effect for P.E.I.
