Thai police revealed that a 14-year-old boy involved in a deadly school shooting near Bangkok last year had an air gun confiscated. The teenager, who is accused of killing his grandparents at home before attacking six others at his school and then taking his own life, had accessed violent online content and utilized social media to learn about firearms.
Authorities mentioned that the perpetrator had shown interest in firearms for around one to two years. Witnesses reported finding a knife in the boy’s possession along with a firearm, spent cartridge cases, and a computer at the crime scenes. Although the child had viewed violent content on social media, there was no evidence of firearm practice.
The Ministry of Education announced plans to implement new safety measures in schools, including mental health evaluations, emergency response drills, anti-bullying initiatives, and improved security checks. The tragic incident resulted in the death of at least nine individuals, including teachers and students, and left over 20 others injured, sparking renewed discussions on gun control in Thailand.
The boy’s mother expressed shock and sorrow over the events, revealing that she had no prior knowledge of her son’s involvement in the shooting. She reached out to him after hearing about the incident, urging him to contact her if he needed help. Apologizing for the devastation caused, she emphasized the unexpected nature of the tragedy.
