A tragic incident in Alberta resulted in the death of a five-year-old girl and left three others with serious injuries after a collision involving a stolen truck, according to the Alberta RCMP. The authorities reported that Cold Lake officers responded to a severe crash between a minivan and a pickup truck at approximately 10 p.m. on Tuesday near the Beaver River Bridge along Highway 897, situated about 16 kilometers south of Cold Lake in northeastern Alberta. Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement discovered the lifeless body of the young girl in the minivan, while a 10-month-old infant, the 27-year-old mother of the children, and a 30-year-old man were all rushed to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries.
Further investigation revealed that the truck implicated in the collision had been reported stolen from Lashburn, Saskatchewan, three days prior. Following the accident, the perpetrator took another vehicle belonging to a Good Samaritan who had stopped to render aid, as stated by the police in a press release. Although the stolen vehicle of the Good Samaritan was later found abandoned, law enforcement officers managed to apprehend a suspect. A 34-year-old man from Bonnyville, Alberta, was charged with multiple offenses, including failure to stop at an accident scene resulting in death, two counts of failing to stop causing bodily harm, theft of a motor vehicle, among others. The suspect was remanded into custody and is set to appear in court at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul.
The tragic incident has shocked the community, and the authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
