Real Madrid has imposed fines of half a million euros ($588,000 US) each on Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni for their recent altercation during a training session. The disciplinary action was taken following a physical confrontation between the two midfielders, which resulted in Valverde sustaining a head injury that required hospitalization.
After the incident, Real Madrid initiated disciplinary proceedings against the players. Valverde clarified on social media that there were no physical altercations, explaining that he accidentally hit a table, leading to a minor cut that necessitated medical attention.
In an official statement released on Friday, the club confirmed that both Valverde and Tchouameni expressed deep regret for the incident and offered apologies to each other. While Tchouameni resumed training with the team ahead of their upcoming match against Barcelona, Valverde was absent from practice as he continues to recover from the head injury.
Real Madrid faces a crucial game against Barcelona, with the outcome potentially impacting the La Liga title race. Barcelona could be crowned champions if Madrid fails to secure a victory in the upcoming clasico match.
