“Toronto Honors ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Mastermind Maggie Kang”

The mastermind behind the acclaimed animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters” has been honored with the key to the city of Toronto, her hometown. During a panel discussion at Departure Festival celebrating the film’s success, Maggie Kang was unexpectedly presented with the key by Mayor Olivia Chow. Mayor Chow commended the Korean-Canadian filmmaker for her achievements, noting that her story would serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.

Following the key presentation, Kang, alongside Mayor Chow and Cindy Gouveia, the president of Sheridan College where she studied, posed for photographs. “KPop Demon Hunters” has achieved unprecedented success since its debut, becoming Netflix’s most-watched film to date and generating a chart-topping soundtrack. A sequel for the film has been approved, as revealed by Kang during the panel where she hinted at the upcoming project.

Kang expressed her determination to uphold the same level of dedication for the sequel as she did for the original, aiming to create a movie that resonates with her personal vision. Later in the week, Kang is slated to receive the cultural innovator award at the Departure Honours gala.
