“Explosive Device Neutralized, Sydney Evacuation Lifted”

An alert to vacate the premises was rescinded on Wednesday night following the discovery of an active explosive device in a downtown Sydney, N.S. locale earlier in the day. Cape Breton Regional Police declared that the military’s explosive disposal unit safely neutralized the device, leading to the lifting of evacuations and the reopening of the area to the public. Police responded to a call at 153 Pitt St. around 7:30 a.m. after a live grenade was found inside a business, seemingly tossed through a window. Staff Sgt. Darren Barrington shared that upon investigation, law enforcement officers located what seemed to be an explosive device on the floor, prompting them to retreat and summon the military’s explosive disposal unit for assistance.
