A couple from Chatham is adding a unique twist to their love story by getting married at center ice during an OHL hockey game. Sheldon Cadotte, 30, and Daylene Trudell, 27, have secured the Windsor Spitfires’ WFCU Centre for their wedding ceremony on January 8, coinciding with the game against the Erie Otters.
Cadotte mentioned that with the global love for hockey, it was time for someone to have a wedding on the ice. The nuptials are scheduled to take place during the second intermission of the game, with Windsor wedding officiant Joe McParland overseeing the ceremony.
In addition to their friends and approximately 6,000 Spitfires fans, the couple will be joined by the Windsor Spitfires mascots — Bomber, Ace, and Spike — as witnesses. Trudell expressed that having their wedding at a hockey arena feels natural to her due to her upbringing attending hockey games regularly.
The idea for the event stemmed from Cadotte’s on-ice proposal to Trudell during a Spitfires game in April 2025. While there have been previous marriage proposals at Spitfires games, this will mark the first time the team hosts an actual wedding on the ice.
Remo Agostino, the Spitfires’ brand manager, confirmed that the entire ceremony is a courtesy of the Spitfires organization, with the couple receiving full support and amenities. Cadotte and Trudell, who have been together for eight years, have embraced the Spitfires as their home team, appreciating the players’ dedication and skill, especially in games against rivals like the London team.
Coincidentally, the couple’s wedding day also falls on Elvis Presley’s birthday, which the WFCU Centre will be celebrating during the game with Elvis-themed music. Described as “a night of rock n’ roll and romance,” the event promises to be a unique and memorable experience for the couple and attendees.
