Canada’s Reece Howden bounced back from a disappointing loss to claim victory at a World Cup ski cross event in Veysonnaz, Switzerland. Howden, from Cultus Lake, B.C., fended off a strong challenge from Germany’s Thomas Hronek to secure first place in the big final. Melvin Tchiknavorian of France finished in third place.
Reflecting on his previous defeat, Howden mentioned that he gave his all in this race to avoid a similar outcome. This win marked Howden’s 22nd World Cup triumph, extending his lead in the current season’s standings. He now sits 223 points ahead of Italy’s Simone Deromeidis.
Looking ahead, Howden is focused on maintaining his momentum as he prepares for the upcoming World Cup event in Val di Fassa, Italy, the final competition before the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games. The Canadian emphasized the importance of staying competitive and not holding back, aiming to continue performing at a high level leading up to the Winter Games.
In the women’s race, Canada’s Marielle Thompson secured a bronze medal, her first podium finish of the season, signaling a strong comeback following a knee injury last season. Thompson shared the podium with Germany’s Daniela Maier, who claimed gold, and Austria’s Sonia Gigler, who took silver.
