Canadian figure skaters Alicia Fabbri and Paul Ayer secured a fourth-place finish in the ice dance category at the recent Four Continents Championships held in Beijing. Meanwhile, Gabrielle Daleman landed in seventh place in the women’s singles competition.
The ice dance podium was dominated by American skaters. Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik clinched the gold medal with a total of 202.86 points, followed by Caroline Green and Michael Parsons in silver position with 194.72 points, and Oona and Gage Brown in the bronze spot with 190.78 points.
Fabbri and Ayer, who have previously won bronze at the Canadian championships, accumulated a total of 183.49 points in their performance.
In the women’s singles event, Yuna Aoki from Japan claimed the gold medal with an impressive score of 217.39 points. Her compatriots, Ami Nakai and Mone Chiba, secured the silver and bronze medals with scores of 215.78 and 202.23 points, respectively.
Daleman, a seasoned two-time Olympian, slipped from fourth place after the short program to finish in seventh place following the free skate, garnering a total of 183.47 points.
Hailing from Newmarket, Ontario, the 28-year-old Daleman made a comeback to international competition after a hiatus due to a back injury and two ankle surgeries. Despite aiming to secure a spot in her third Olympics, she was edged out by Madeline Schizas for Canada’s sole women’s singles position at the upcoming Milan Cortina Games in February.
Notably, several skaters bound for the Olympics, including Schizas, opted out of the Four Continents Championships due to its close proximity to the Games.
