“Canadian in Wedding’s Drug Ring Seeks Bail Surety Anonymity”

An individual from Ontario, apprehended in a crackdown aimed at suspected associates of Canadian fugitive Ryan Wedding, seeks court protection for the anonymity of individuals willing to supervise him while on bail. Rolan Sokolovski’s legal team has filed a request before his upcoming bail hearing to prevent the disclosure of details that could reveal his potential sureties.

Sokolovski, possessing dual Lithuanian-Canadian citizenship, is among several Canadians facing extradition to the U.S. in connection with an FBI inquiry into Wedding, an ex-Olympic snowboarder purportedly leading an international drug trafficking operation. U.S. authorities accuse Sokolovski of money laundering for the criminal group and purchasing luxury items for Wedding.

During proceedings on Friday, Sokolovski’s attorney, Scott Fenton, contended that revealing the identities of the proposed sureties could subject them to significant risks. In contrast, Crown prosecutors argued that there was no evidence of threats to the sureties’ safety and that concealing their identities would withhold crucial information from the public regarding the court’s decision on Sokolovski’s release.

The Ontario Superior Court is anticipated to rule on the matter on Monday when Sokolovski’s bail hearing commences. Court documents linked to Sokolovski’s U.S. indictment portray him as a professional poker player, jeweler, and procurer facing allegations of overseeing financial records for the organization and engaging in money laundering through his jewelry business.

The legal papers also suggest that Sokolovski crafted a “bejeweled necklace” as payment for an alleged accomplice in the murder of a federal witness, aiding Wedding by providing essential information. Wedding, who is believed to be evading authorities in Mexico, is a prime target on the FBI’s most wanted list.

In a recent development, a lawyer from the Toronto area, accused of playing a pivotal role in the criminal network, was granted bail with stringent conditions, including constant home confinement. Deepak Paradkar’s spouse and another family member are serving as his sureties. Paradkar is implicated in advising Wedding on the witness’s murder, facilitating drug trafficking introductions, and managing intelligence operations post-drug seizures by law enforcement.

Furthermore, the FBI in Miami seized a rare Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Roadster last November, estimated at $13 million, as part of the investigation into Wedding’s network. The car was reportedly purchased by Sokolovski.
