The Russian government has accused British experts of being involved in a fatal strike on the Russian city of Bryansk in Ukraine. The attack, carried out using British Storm Shadow missiles, resulted in the death of at least six civilians and left 37 others injured, according to the Bryansk regional governor. Described as a “terrorist missile attack,” the governor did not specify the target of the strike.
When questioned by Reuters about a potential military response to the use of British missiles on Russian territory, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia would consider the British role in the incident. Peskov highlighted the necessity of British specialists for launching the missiles and emphasized Russia’s awareness of their involvement.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned the strike as deliberate and harmful to civilians, urging the United Nations to investigate the matter. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed responsibility for the strike, stating that it targeted a Russian military facility manufacturing crucial missile components.
In a separate incident, officials in Kharkiv reported that a Russian drone attack on a civilian business resulted in two fatalities and five injuries. The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, confirmed the casualties and mentioned that all wounded individuals were in serious condition.
Kharkiv, situated near the Russian border, has faced multiple Russian air attacks since the invasion began in February 2022. Talks between Ukraine and Russia, mediated by envoys dispatched by former U.S. President Donald Trump prior to the U.S. and Israeli conflict with Iran, have been ongoing. Kremlin spokesperson Peskov stated that the next round of talks may occur in Istanbul, building upon previous negotiations held in the Turkish city and other locations with U.S. mediation.
