Lakehead Public Schools have closed rural schools today due to inclement weather, including Crestview, Five Mile, Gorham Ware, McKenzie, Nor’wester View, Kakabeka, Valley Central, and Whitefish Valley schools. City schools under the public board are open in Thunder Bay, alongside the Thunder Bay Catholic Board, French Catholic, and French public schools. City school buses are operating as well.

The City of Thunder Bay reported approximately 15 cm of snow accumulation overnight, with strong winds causing drifting in various parts of the city. Road crews initiated clearing operations on priority routes, including arterial, collector, and transit corridors starting at 2 a.m. The city expects this work to be completed soon. Residential street plowing will commence once priority routes are cleared and is projected to finish by Wednesday’s end.
Sidewalk clearing on arterial, collector, and core-area streets began at 3 a.m. and is scheduled for completion by the end of the day. Residential sidewalks and trails will be addressed after priority areas are cleared and are anticipated to be finished by Thursday’s end. The city commenced sanding and salting operations at 5 p.m. on Sunday, continuing through the night. Residential streets will be sanded once priority routes are fully cleared.
