A woman in her 90s passed away after being discovered outside her senior living facility on January 1 in Lac-au-Saumon, located in Quebec’s Lower Saint-Lawrence region. The woman resided at Domaine Lac-au-Saumon, a privately run seniors’ home. Authorities mentioned that she was found in a critical state at 8:00 a.m., and despite efforts by emergency responders to revive her, she succumbed to her condition at a hospital later on.
The provincial police have initiated an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, with plans for an autopsy in progress. Marythé Bolduc, Sûreté du Québec spokesperson, stated that all potential scenarios are being examined.
Expressing deep sorrow, France Lepage, the director of the seniors’ residence, stated, “In my 28 years here, I have never encountered such a tragic event.” She went on to emphasize the emotional toll it has taken, particularly on the family. Lepage, also serving as the head nurse at the facility, disclosed that the deceased individual had resided in the independent living section of the residence for nearly two years, granting residents the freedom to move about as they please.
Regarding security measures, Lepage mentioned, “We have a modern security system in place that complies with all regulations. Residents with cognitive impairments or those prone to wandering wear identification bracelets to limit their movements.” Additionally, she confirmed that all surveillance footage had been provided to the police for investigation purposes.
