Police in St. John’s have apprehended a 41-year-old man on charges related to firearms following an incident in the city’s west end. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary disclosed that officers were dispatched to a residence on Barachois Street in response to a firearms violation report at approximately 10 a.m. NT on New Year’s Day. The individual inside the home was taken into custody without resistance after law enforcement secured the premises with the assistance of the Tactics and Rescue Unit and the RCMP.
The investigation is being supported by the Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Identification Services. During the execution of a search warrant at the location, authorities discovered a firearm, brass knuckles, a stun gun, and soft body armor, which were confiscated as part of the inquiry. Fortunately, no injuries were documented during the operation.
The arrested man faces multiple charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and trafficking in weapons. He is scheduled to appear in court to address these allegations.
