Residents of Amherstburg experienced an earthquake on the first day of the New Year. Earthquakes Canada confirmed that a mildly felt seismic event occurred in Amherstburg at 11:19 a.m. on Thursday. According to the Natural Resources Canada department, the earthquake measured 2.0 on the moment magnitude scale and had its epicenter situated five kilometers beneath the town. Despite causing no damage, Earthquakes Canada received 150 reports from individuals who felt the earthquake. The last earthquake recorded in the region was in 2023, registering a magnitude of 4.4.
