A fatal incident involving gunshots has claimed the life of an individual on Walpole Island First Nation, as reported by the Walpole Island Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police. The incident occurred on Squirrel Island Road in the community, located approximately 120 kilometers northeast of Windsor, Ontario, near the Michigan border, around 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Upon responding to a disturbance related to a firearm, law enforcement discovered a deceased individual at the scene, identified as a 29-year-old resident of Walpole Island First Nation. A suspect has been taken into custody and is scheduled for a court appearance on Jan. 7. Authorities assure the public that there is no immediate danger to safety, although the investigation is ongoing, with no further details released about the victim or the individual in custody.
