A 13-year-old boy in Nova Scotia has tragically passed away following an incident involving three dogs. Drew Nickerson, a Grade 8 student at Shelburne Regional High School, is being mourned by his community. Described as an outdoors enthusiast and a friend to many, a tribute penned by a family member is now part of an online fundraiser to support the boy’s mother.
The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education expressed sorrow over the loss, highlighting the impact on students and ensuring that support services are available at the school. The fatal attack occurred on Saturday evening while the boy was riding his bicycle on Upper Sandy Cove Road in Welshtown, N.S., approximately 12 kilometers north of Shelburne. Following the attack, the boy was airlifted to a hospital in Halifax via LifeFlight helicopter, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The dogs responsible for the attack were euthanized by a veterinarian, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have confirmed an ongoing investigation. As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident, according to a statement from the RCMP to CBC News.
