The New York Sirens clinched a 2-0 victory over the Toronto Sceptres in Professional Women’s Hockey League action in Toronto. Kristýna Kaltounkova netted two goals while Kayle Osborne made 31 saves to secure a shutout for New York, extending their winning streak to four games.
Toronto’s Elaine Chuli stopped 20 shots but couldn’t prevent her team from suffering a third consecutive loss. Kaltounkova scored her first goal by redirecting a point shot from Jincy Roese early in the second period. Despite missing a penalty shot opportunity, Kaltounkova sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final seconds of the game.
The Sceptres struggled to capitalize on scoring chances, with the Sirens capitalizing on a crucial opportunity to secure the victory. New York’s triumph propelled them to second place in the PWHL standings, just one point behind the Boston Fleet.
The key moment of the game was Kaltounkova’s tip-in goal that provided New York with the necessary cushion to hold off Toronto’s late push. Daryl Watts entered the game with impressive point and goal streaks, nearing league records set in the previous season.
In their next games, the Sirens will host the Minnesota Frost on January 16, while the Sceptres are set to face the Boston Fleet on January 14.
