The NHL’s player safety department announced the suspension of Calgary Flames forward John Beecher and Winnipeg Jets defenseman Logan Stanley, each receiving a one-game suspension for separate roughing incidents. Beecher threw a punch that caught Nashville Predators forward Michael McCarron off-guard while being held back by two linesmen during Calgary’s 4-3 defeat on Saturday. The incident took place at 13:15 in the first period following a scuffle near the Flames bench, prompted by McCarron dropping his gloves and engaging with Beecher. Beecher, aged 24, was penalized with a roughing minor and a 10-minute misconduct before leaving the game due to an injury sustained while fighting Nic Hague of Nashville in the second period.
On the other hand, Stanley delivered an ungloved punch to the face of Brady Tkachuk during the second period of Winnipeg’s 4-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. The 27-year-old Stanley received a roughing minor and an illegal equipment minor for the action, while an incensed Tkachuk was issued a 10-minute misconduct penalty. Notably, neither Beecher nor Stanley had previously faced suspensions or fines in their NHL careers, with Beecher playing in 155 games and Stanley in 242 matches.
