Donald Trump says âmonsterâ nukes could be âend of the worldâ in grim war warning
Donald Trump has warned monster nuclear warheads in the hands of the US and Russia could be the “end of the world” in a grim warning.
The US President was talking to a news programme on the dangers of missile stockpiles around the world. He said last week how the US and Russia have “by far the most”, but admitted China will catch up by the end of the decade.
During the chat shown this morning, he lamented the huge amounts of American dollars spent on the “big monsters”, which could cause the end of the world. He told Sunday Morning Futures: “The greatest is sitting on shelves in various countries called ‘nuclear weapons’ that are big monsters that can blow your heads off for miles and miles and miles.
“It’s just bad you have to spend all this money on something that if it’s used, it’s probably the end of the world.”
Last week the second term president revealed how he is keen to restart nuclear with Russia and China in the hope the countries could agree to cut their massive defence budgets in half. He said from the Oval Office: “âThereâs no reason for us to be building brand new nuclear weapons, we already have so many.
“You could destroy the world 50 times over, 100 times over. And here we are building new nuclear weapons, and theyâre building nuclear weapons. Weâre all spending a lot of money we could be spending on other things actually, hopefully much more productive.
“One of the first meetings I want to have is with President Xi of China, President Putin of Russia. And I want to say, âletâs cut our military budget in half.â And we can do that. And I think weâll be able to.â
The president also earlier told Iranian leaders to launch high-level nuclear negotiations in a letter appearing to threaten the nation with military action. The US President said he wrote to Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei telling him he hoped they were “going to negotiate” because, if they didn’t, his administration “might have to go in militarily”.
He told Fox News interviewers that it would be a “terrible thing” to take action, adding he could make a deal that would provide results “just as good as if you won militarily”.
He said in an interview, which was filmed on Thursday but is due to be televised over the weekend: “I’ve written them a letter saying, ‘I hope you’re going to negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it’s going to be a terrible thing.”
